budget calculationsThe Johns Creek City Council on Sept. 9 approved a $57.6 million budget for 2014 without raising property taxes.
Most of the money, $46.6 million, is in the general fund, which covers day-to-day services. The 2013 general fund budget was $45.5 million.
The City has maintained the same property tax rate of 4.614 mills since it was incorporated in 2006. In addition to the general fund, the City maintains eight other accounts ranging from $7,500 (motor vehicle rental tax fund) to $7.3 million (capital projects).
Highlights of the 2014 budget include:
$1.4 million for design of Kimball Bridge Road widening from Jones Bridge to State Bridge roads
$1 million for improvements of Jones Bridge Road from State Bridge to Kimball Bridge
$975,000 for construction of roundabout at intersection of Bell and Boles roads
$400,000 for construction of Newtown Park Pavilion
$650,000 for road improvements on Old Alabama Road from Nesbitt Ferry to Brumbelow
$510,000 to replace nine police patrol vehicles, two police motorcycles, two police vehicles
$500,000 for improvements to Abbotts Bridge Road from Parsons Road to Ga. 141
$499,500 for Phase 3 expansion and improvements of the Intelligent Traffic System (expansion of system that allows technicians to remotely monitor and adjust traffic lights to ease congestion)
$150,000 for economic development program
The City's fiscal year starts Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30.
